Discovering Amsterdam Noord

This picture was taken on my very first trip to Amsterdam Noord. For those not familiar with Noord, it’s basically the North of Amsterdam in which you have to take a 45 second ferry (which is free!) over the Ij to get to. The part pictured here is my absolute favourite. It’s full of abandoned factories, buildings and this – I think – was an old shipyard. Now, it’s fallen into disrepair… but many of the seemingly abandoned structures actually house start up projects, independent companies and the ocassional squatter. It’s raw, it’s rugged, and it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re ever over in Amsterdam.
